Tired of getting blurry nighttime portraits due to hand-shake? Had enough flash shots with washed-out faces? Hate those out-of-focus flower photos? Sometimes it's hard to know which function to use, or switching modes is a bother, so the camera just stays in Auto mode. Too often, this won't give you the sharp, clear pictures you want. Lumix's iA (Intelligent Auto) Mode solves these problems with single-button ease. The camera automatically optimizes the settings to produce beautifully sharp, blur-free pictures in typical shooting situations.

The following four detection functions team up to give you beautiful photos every time in iA (Intelligent Auto) Mode.

The iA (Intelligent Auto) Mode setting on the DMC-FX33 integrates all of these advanced intelligent functions.
The MEGA O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabilizer) compensates for the blurring caused by hand-shake. It is now featured on the entire LUMIX range, and is highly popular with users around the world. Even slight hand-shake movement is accurately detected by a sampling frequency of 4,000 times per second, and compensated to produce sharp, clear images. The new advanced MEGA O.I.S. in the DMC-FX33 can even detect and separate hand-shake from other types of camera movement to raise both the detection precision and corrective effect. This is true, of course, for macro shots, which are especially susceptible to hand-shake, but it also lets you shoot in dimly lit rooms or evening illumination, without a flash, to preserve the mood. In short, it lets anybody take beautiful, blur-free shots with ease.

The Intelligent ISO Control function, made possible by the Venus Engine III, detects subject movement and automatically adjusts the ISO setting and shutter speed to best suit the movement and light conditions. When it detects subject motion, it automatically raises the ISO setting and increases the shutter speed to prevent motion blur. On the other hand, when the subject is still and no movement is detected, it takes beautifully natural photos with a low ISO setting. The sensitivity can be raised to a maximum of ISO 1250, or you can set it to a limit of ISO 400 or ISO 800. Have you ever mistakenly used a high ISO setting to take a photo of a subject standing still? If so, you may remember the noisy, grainy result. Or, if you have tried snapping a moving subject at a low ISO setting, your photo was probably spoiled by motion blur. Intelligent ISO Control gives you stunning images with ease because there is no need for complicated settings.

*When ISO in AUTO (Normal Picture Mode) is used, motion detection is not performed and the brightness is detected to automatically raise the sensitivity to a maximum of ISO 400.
The new Face Detection function in the DMC-FX33 detects faces for up to 15 people in the frame and simultaneously and automatically optimizes the focus and exposure settings. It prevents the blurry faces that happen when the camera focuses on an item in front of or behind the subject, and keeps faces from appearing dark when shooting indoors or against the light source. The DMC-FX33 does all of this automatically. Once the camera detects a face, Auto Tracking AF follows it even when the subject moves around. This makes it easy to capture the smiling faces of active children. The DMC-FX33 also takes beautiful portraits thanks to this intelligent function.
*The Face Detection function automatically turns on when the dial is set to iA Mode or some Scene Modes.

When the camera's in iA (Intelligent Auto) Mode, the Intelligent Scene Selector senses the ambient conditions and automatically selects either Scenery, Portrait, Macro, Night Portrait or Night Scenery mode accordingly**. It makes several other advanced image settings too, so you're assured of getting beautiful results every time you shoot, no matter what the scene or subject. With the Intelligent Scene Selector doing all the complicated work for you, you'll find photography easier than ever to enjoy.

* With some subject and shooting conditions, it is just not possible to judge the best shooting details. When this happens, it is recommended that you shoot with the Scene Mode that best suits your purpose.
**In iA mode, Night Portrait is not identified when the flash is turned off, and Night Scenery is not identified when the flash is set to Auto; Not offered on all previous LUMIX models.
